New York, also known as "THE BIG APPLE," is located in the Northeast region of the United States. By area, New York is the 27th largest state, and by population, it is the 4th most populous state and the 7th most densely populated. Albany is the capital of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York metropolitan area, and 40% of the remaining population lives on Long Island. By population, New York City is the most populous city in the United States as well as one of the most populous in the world.
